How to import your lists and to-dos from Wunderlist to Microsoft To-Do? 9 step guide.

How to import your lists and to-dos from Wunderlist to Microsoft To-Do? 9 step guide.

Microsoft recently announced that it is planning to retire Wunderlist to help its newest release – Microsoft To-Do – a replacement of Wunderlist.

The news headlines from Techcrunch and other valid sources (Microsoft to shut down Wunderlist in favor of its new app, To-Do) made a rather frightening experience for me and probably also for many other Wunderlist users who were happy with the simple and minimalistic to-do list and task management solution.

But there is no need to worry. Microsoft has come forward and offered an easy way how to import all your lists to the new product (which is being built by the same Wunderlist team – to ensure that product indeed becomes a better alternative).

Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to help you import your lists and to-dos from Wunderlist to Microsoft To-Do.

  1. Visit Microsoft page created purely for the import process of Wunderlist and Todoist lists.
    Visit special microsoft to-do page
  2. Click on start importing and a new page will pop-up where you will need to log-in with Microsoft account. As soon as you will type in an e-mail – they will redirect you to a different Microsoft page where you will need to authorize with your Microsoft account.
  3. Next they will ask for some permissions required to do the importing.
    Accept all permissions
  4. Afterwards – provide you with a choice between two to-do apps – choose the one you are using (Wunderlist or Todoist).

  5. Another authorization allowance step – nothing extraordinary here.

  6. Then you are given a selection of all your lists and you can choose the ones you want to import.
  7. NOTE – They do not support Sub-tasks (check the picture what is the sub-task). I would suggest to add these subtasks as notes to the specific to-do item if you want to leave them under a specific task in the same place.

  8. Afterwards the importing process will start – you can close the page, the import will happen on their side. Now it is time to install new Microsoft To-Do app. Head to https://todo.microsoft.com and sign-in and get the app!

  9. That’s it – you are ready to use the new app with all your lists and to-do tasks in the same place and order. Sadly, Microsoft To-Do app is not available in the App store for Macs; however, so for Apple users – we need to stick with the web version. Microsoft’s To-Do is available on Android OS, iOS and also on Windows phones.
